Florida Gateway College offers a comprehensive range of placement exams and assessments to support students in achieving their academic and career goals. Whether you're a degree-seeking student, entering a certificate program, or pursuing specialized fields like nursing, firefighting, or education, FGC provides essential testing services, including the PERT, TABE, FCLE, TEAS, NFSI, CLEP, GED, and ParaPro assessments. These exams are designed to assess your skills, place you in the appropriate courses, and help you succeed in your chosen program. The PERT is an entry-level placement test required of all degree-seeking students in the Florida College System according to Florida Statutes, Section 1008.30, Rule 6A-10.0315. This test will determine your initial placement in English, reading and mathematics courses.
If you have taken the PERT at another institution or at your high school within the last two years, please contact the Test Center.
If you have taken the PERT at Florida Gateway College and would like your score report sent to another institution, please fill out the Score Request Form and email it to test.center@fgc.edu.
The ACT and SAT exams are usually taken during high school, and the scores can be utilized for college-level placement. If you have taken the ACT or SAT within the last two years, please log into your MyACT or CollegeBoard account and follow the directions for sending your score reports to Florida Gateway College.
Florida Gateway College cannot provide official scores for these tests to another college. You must request your score report be sent to each school individually.
TABE tests are administered for students seeking to enroll into certificate programs, e.g., Cosmetology, Welding, HVAC, Practical Nursing, and Firefighter/EMT.
There are two levels of TABE: Level A and Level D. The level needed depends on the program of interest. Be sure to let the test proctor know what program you are entering to ensure the correct level is administered.

*Note: A standard score of 50 or more on the American Government CLEP exam can be used to replace POS 1041 (American Government) and meet the requirements for the Civic Literacy exam.
The Test Center provides private or alternate testing environments for students with approved accommodations. Please contact the Office of Accessibility Services at 386-754-4215 for more information. Accommodated testing must be scheduled in advance by contacting the Test Center to ensure availability.
PearsonVue provides testing for program entry and certifications across several fields, including but not limited to: GED, FTCE, FDLE, CJBAT, CompTIA, EMT, Firefighter, Insurance Exams. These exams must be scheduled on the PearsonVue site www.pearsonvue.com/
The TEAS is a standardized multiple-choice exam that assesses a student’s readiness for nursing or allied health program. Students required to take the TEAS must register for the exam at atitesting.com. When selecting a test location, search for FL Gateway College.
The NFSI is an entry-level firefighter examination. It has been successfully validated and deployed for agencies under US Department of Justice oversight. The NFSI combines a comprehensive cognitive ability measure with a measure of behavioral orientation.

The Test Center at Florida Gateway College is an NCTA (National College Testing Association) certified testing facility, and is a Pearson approved test site. We offer proctored testing for individuals needing to test in a proctored environment. There is a $20 fee for test proctoring services.
The CLEP, or College-Level Examination Program, is a series of examinations that allow students to demonstrate competency in certain subjects and earn college credit for those courses without attending classes. Up to 45 credits of coursework may be earned through CLEP exams. If you are interested in the CLEP exams offered, please visit https://clep.collegeboard.org.
If you would like to take a CLEP exam:
1. Visit https://clep.collegeboard.org/register-for-an-exam to register.
2. You will then need to schedule an exam date and time with our Test Center through our RegisterBlast link: https://www2.registerblast.com/fgc/Exam/List. You will choose Credit by Exam for the group and CLEP examination for the exam type.
On the day of testing, please bring your photo ID and CLEP exam registration ticket, there is information on there that is needed to begin your exam. Test Center staff does not have access to this information and cannot locate it. This information is only provided to the test taker.
If you plan to attend another college or university, your CLEP scores do not transfer automatically with your Florida Gateway College transcript. You will need to send your CLEP scores in addition to your Florida Gateway College transcript to each college or university you are applying to. In order to send additional score reports, log into your CLEP account and complete a transcript request.
Students that missed a class exam due to illness or other valid reason can potentially make up exams in the test center. First, approval from the instructor must be granted. Once the instructor has given permission to make up the exam, contact the Test Center at 386-754-4333 to schedule your test appointment. The Test Center must receive instructor approval and all required testing information prior to testing.
The ParaPro Assessment is a general aptitude test for prospective and practicing paraprofessionals that measures your skills and knowledge in reading, writing and math, as well as your ability to apply them when assisting in classroom instruction.

The GED, or General Education Development, is a high school equivalency set of tests. Once the test taker has passed all sections, they have met the high-school level of academic skills. The four sections are mathematical reasoning, reasoning through language arts, social studies and science.
