LAKE CITY, Fla. – Florida Gateway College proudly marks its 12th consecutive year with no increase in tuition and fees, maintaining the same rates since the 2012-13 academic year.

As prices rise across the country, so does the cost of higher education. Tuition rates in the U.S. consistently increase yearly, but Florida Gateway College defies this trend, making a college degree more affordable and attainable for its students.

In the ten years between the 2012-13 and 2022-23 academic years, the average undergraduate tuition and fees at U.S. colleges and universities rose nearly 38% before adjusting for inflation, according to the National Center for Education Statistics. In that same time, and to this day, tuition and fees at FGC have remained at the same low rate ($103.32 per associate-level credit hour, in-state). When adjusted for inflation, the real cost of a degree from FGC has decreased by 27% since 2012.

Keeping the price of an education low is essential to fulfilling FGC’s mission to provide “affordable, quality higher education programs and lifelong learning opportunities” to the college’s five-country service district, the surrounding communities, and students worldwide. A 2023 Economic Impact Study found that students gain back $7.50 in lifetime earnings for each dollar they invest in their education at FGC.

By maintaining low tuition rates, FGC helps equip Florida’s workforce with the skills needed to compete in the 21st century. Graduates fill critical positions in high-demand fields, including healthcare, education, technology, and a wide range of academic and vocational disciplines, ensuring Florida remains an attractive destination for businesses seeking skilled workers.

As the primary source of educated, skilled workers in the area, FGC plays an especially crucial role in the economic development of the five-county district it serves. The 2023 study found that approximately 29% of FGC students originated outside the region. These incoming individuals contribute to the growth of the local workforce and provide local industry with talented, well-trained employees. FGC graduates strengthen small businesses, enhance healthcare services, and help rural communities thrive.

With affordable tuition and opportunities for federal, state, and private financial aid, there has never been a better time to pursue a college degree at FGC. FGC provides state-of-the-art facilities, high-quality instruction, and exceptional value to help all students reach their educational, personal, and professional goals.

“We are dedicated to the continued expansion of educational opportunities and keeping tuition affordable,” said FGC President Dr. Lawrence Barrett. “We look forward to working with state leaders to ensure that Florida Gateway College remains a vital driver of educational and economic growth in North Florida.”
