LAKE CITY, Fla. – Florida Gateway College is pleased to announce Kathleen Ciez-Volz, Ed.D., as the new FGC Vice President of Academic Affairs.

“I have long admired Florida Gateway College’s commitment to providing superior instruction while nurturing the individual development of all students within a supportive learning environment,” Ciez-Volz said. “I am honored to serve as FGC’s Vice President of Academic Affairs, and I enthusiastically look forward to collaborating with the faculty and staff to enrich the lives of our students and five-county service area.”

Ciez-Volz comes to FGC from Florida State College at Jacksonville after more than 29 years with the institution. Most recently, she served seven years as Associate Provost of Curriculum and Instruction at FSCJ, overseeing a wide array of departments including Curriculum Services, Library and Learning Commons, Developmental Education, and the college’s Center for Civic Engagement, among others. Other roles during her tenure with FSCJ included Executive Dean of Academic Foundations and Director of Academic and Instructional Program Development. In addition to her experience as an administrator, she has more than 30 years of experience in the classroom as a Professor of English.

In her new role, Ciez-Volz takes the helm of FGC’s Academic Affairs Division, overseeing the college’s more than 60 academic programs, ranging from career and technical certificates to associate and bachelor’s degrees. She will also oversee eLearning, Libraries, and Institutional Effectiveness.

Vice President Ciez-Volz holds a Doctorate in Education with a Concentration in Community College Leadership from the University of Texas at Austin and a Master’s Degree in English from the University of Florida. She has garnered numerous awards and honors throughout her career, with recent examples including the Northeast Florida Library Information Network’s Library Champion Award (2023), the Florida Phi Theta Kappa Distinguished Service Award (2022), and the American Association of University Administrators Fellowship (2020-2021).
