TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Today, April 17, 2024, the Florida Board of Education granted approval to Florida Gateway College’s new Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration.
Dr. Lawrence Barrett, FGC President, made a presentation to the State Board of Education today at their meeting in Tallahassee. The proposal included multiple letters of support from community business partners, including chambers of commerce, economic development councils, and business owners and administrators. FGC business partner First Federal Bank spoke before the board in support of the new program.
“We are immensely excited about the new degree opportunity for students,” said Tim Mimbs, FGC Associate Professor of Business Administration. “This is a huge step not only for FGC but also for the development of the workforce for our community.”
As the college’s service district continues its economic growth, the demand for skilled individuals with business training is high and getting higher. Until now, there existed no local option for students to pursue a four-year business degree. With FGC’s Business Administration BS, students will be able to remain in the area, earn their business degree, and contribute to the thriving business landscape within the district.
The new four-year degree program is a major step forward for FGC’s growing Business department and will enable FGC students with an Associate in Arts (AA) in Business or an Associate in Science (AS) in Business Administration to seamlessly transition into a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Business Administration degree.
Students will receive a comprehensive education in business administration, covering disciplines such as accounting, finance, marketing, management, operations, and ethics. Graduates will complete the program with the critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills needed to be the business leaders of tomorrow.
With the program receiving official approval from the state board, FGC’s BS in Business Administration is on track to begin in Fall of 2024. This brings the total number of bachelor’s degrees offered at the college to five, including Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Nursing, and Water Resource Management.
Registration for Fall 2024 begins May 20. For more information on the programs and degrees offered at FGC, visit www.fgc.edu.
