Florida Gateway College is pleased to be able to offer a variety of grants and scholarship opportunities to students. Learn more about all of the available opportunities or get in touch with our financial aid office.

Grants

There are primarily two types of grants available to assist students with paying for their college education – federal and state.

Federal Grants

Federal Grants are awarded based solely on financial need. Grants do not have to be repaid unless, for example, you are awarded funds incorrectly, did not complete attendance requirements, etc.

  • Pell Grants – These grants form the foundation of federal student aid. They generally are available only to undergraduate students.
  • Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (FSEOG) – These are awarded to undergraduate students with exceptional financial need. Pell recipients receive priority for FSEOG awards.

State Grants

  • Florida Student Assistant Grant (FSAG) – These need-based grants are available to degree-seeking, resident undergraduates who demonstrate substantial financial need and are enrolled in a participating postsecondary institution. Visit the FSAG fact sheet for more details.
  • Florida Public Postsecondary Career Education Student Assistant Grant Program (FSAGCE) – This is a need-based grant available to Florida residents enrolled in certificate programs of 450 clock hours or more at a participating Florida college or career center operated by school districts.   • First Generation Matching Grant (FGMG) – This need-based grant program is available to degree-seeking, resident, undergraduate students who demonstrate substantial financial need, are enrolled in eligible participating postsecondary institutions.  Eligible students will have a parent(s) who has not earned a baccalaureate or higher degree.   • Open Door Grant – The Open Door Grant Program is a financial aid program for students at a Florida College Systems institution to incentivize current and future workers to enroll in career and technical education programs that lead to a credential, certificate or degree. Note: State Grants are awarded only when state funding is available.

Scholarships

Board of Trustees Scholarship

The 2025 Board of Trustees Scholarship Application will open in October 2025. This scholarship program grants over 60 new scholarships each year to seniors who have a 2.5 GPA or higher and attend Baker, Columbia, Dixie, Gilchrist or Union County public high schools. The BOT Scholarship application consists of an essay component that requires the student to address their academic accomplishment, extracurricular engagement, future goals and personal challenges. The application also requires two letters of recommendation. A committee of FGC faculty and staff reviews the applications based on a scoring rubric for each component to determine recipients.

Criteria:

  • Students must be from Baker, Columbia, Dixie, Gilchrist and Union County Public High Schools
  • Incoming High School Seniors Only
  • Scholarship can only be used at Florida Gateway College (FGC)
  • Students must apply for the scholarship
  • Application opens in October
  • Application deadline is March 15th
  • Students must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at studentaid.gov
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher is required to apply (final HS transcripts will be required before scholarship award can be placed on a student account)
  • Students must maintain at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA at FGC to remain eligible
  • Must be enrolled at FGC full-time each semester, 12 credits or more in fall and spring
  • Volunteer participation in FGC’s student ambassador organization
  • 2 letters of recommendation (non-family member) and 500 word personal essay

Award:

  • Tuition for 2 years (12 credit hours per semester for 4 consecutive fall and spring semesters for one degree program only )
  • Receive an FGC mentor

  • Variety of privately funded scholarships to FGC students
  • Application opens the beginning of fall and spring terms usually a month before fees are due.
  • Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is required to be considered.
