LAKE CITY, Fla. – Enrollment is up for Summer and Fall terms at Florida Gateway College.

After college enrollment across the country faced obstacles presented by COVID-19, FGC’s Summer 2022 enrollment is up 3.9% over last year, with 1,824 students taking courses. These numbers put FGC back at pre-pandemic levels, and current Fall enrollment numbers are heading in the right direction as well. The college’s Fall headcount enrollment is currently up 6.6% over the same time last year and is trending upward, with total Fall credit hours up 12.1%.

“Our enrollment management and student affairs staff have had to think creatively and boldly about how to adapt to the enrollment challenges being faced by colleges nationwide,” said Tony Cardenas, Vice President of Student Affairs and Public Information. “Their work has put us in a strong position going into the start of the new academic year. FGC is proud of their efforts.”

The economic, health, and logistical challenges created by the pandemic forced everyone, including students, to adjust during the last two years. Students had to change the way they learned and lived, from taking classes online to picking up more hours or finding new employment. Due to these and other factors, colleges across the country saw decreases in enrollment. By working to adapt to the ever-changing situation and find solutions to unprecedented challenges, FGC has made it possible for students to return to college and take advantage of the quality, affordable higher education that the college has to offer.

“We consistently work to promote access to the opportunities at FGC,” said Kacey Shrader, Dean of Enrollment and Marketing, “and it’s encouraging to see more students choosing to invest in their future now. Entering directly into the workforce without training may have immediate appeal, but the long-term advantages of a degree far outweigh the short-term gain, including being more equipped for career and life, increased opportunities, and greater lifetime earnings. Fortunately, we offer flexible programs that can be completed by working adults.”

In addition to top-tier faculty and facilities, including the brand-new Quinn & Keith Leibfried STEM Building, the college is offering incentives and benefits for enrolling at FGC. Fall 2022 enrollment incentives include a $300 voucher for the FGC Bookstore which can be used for textbooks and supplies. In June, the college held a drawing of Fall enrollees to award one of five $100 gas gift cards. Through programs like these, state-of-the-art facilities, and dedicated faculty and staff, Florida Gateway College makes getting a college education easier and more rewarding than ever.
